XC Season

I have definitely been a slacker posting about XC season this year so I'll just give you the highlights since it has now ended for the year!!!

The season was definitely different than others and both the guys and girls teams were FULL of injuries this year.  It was a great time of testing and rejoicing and lots of teachable moments throughout the season when things do not go as planned (because I'm not sure anything went as planned!).

The season also looked very different for Rance as the head coach since he was injured in September and was unable to run at every practice with his team.  I am thankful for times of trials and the way the teams prevailed!

Just a few random pictures from the season:

Coaching moments!

Lil Frank's discipline this season was incredible!

Ava continued to be my running partner this year during the week races!

We LOVED having the cutest little fan ever this year at all of our races!

There was lots of weekend travel but a fun group to travel with!  The next few pictures below are at the Invitational race in Kernersville, NC which is basically a pre-state race!

squinty eyes!

Love supporting him!

racing shoes at the starting line (LOVE bright XC shoes)

Team talks...

Devin running his FIRST invitational race and FIRST time running on the state course!

This gal is one dedicated runner and to
watch her grow spiritually this past year
has been the most fun!

love watching him race!

The top 3 teams in the conference this year were literally separated by a point or two at the CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP race in October.  We were estatic that our Robbinsville high school boys team pulled off the Conference Championship!

FINALLY a healthy team at the end of the season!

Of course a jumping pic would have to take place!

Jess & Wyatt were HUGE XC fans this year!  Not to mention - Lil Frank loves him some Wyatt!

LOVE these two!

Shawnda won #1 in the conference for the girls!

The Cline Family!

Coach Latter & Coach Shuler walking away with a conference championship title (Latter's girls team won conference while Shuler's boys team won!).

It's hard to get a picture with Coach!

Shawnda & Frank were both #1 in the conference with Ashlyn & Irvin both placing in top 10!

At the end of October the regionals race took place in Cherokee, North Carolina!

Lil Frank warming up!

Daddy/Daughter talks!

I can't resist this cute face!!!

PRECIOUS boy & mommy!

Love that previous XC runners come out to SUPPORT Rance & the team at regionals!

Lil Frank got 2nd at regionals and Irvin got 8th (qualifying them for the state race)!

Shawnda also got 2nd at regionals, qualifying for the state race!

Regional medal winners & coaches!
2 buddies bonding!
Wyatt is very proud of Lil Frank!

A week later (first week of November), we headed to the State race in Kernersville, North Carolina.  This year, we left on a Thursday so that we could go watch the ACC Cross Country teams race on the same course that Friday!

It was VERY cool to watch the #1 runner for the
guys be a Wolfpacker (since I am a former alumni).
He is even holding up the wolfpack sign as he gets
ready to cross the finish line!

Lil Frank even got a chance to talk to Mr. #1 Wolfpacker!

We then headed to the mall and then to dinner at Olive Garden (runners got to get those carbs in the night before a BIG race!)

LOVE that Hamilton & Creighton joined us for the weekend to support these guys/gals!

Saturday, November 2nd was the State Championship race which officially marks the end of XC season!

Shawnda focusing on STATE RACE DAY!

Lil Frank & Irvin relaxing!

These two ALWAYS keep things entertaining!  The state race would not be the same without them!

I feel like a proud parent in this picture!

And let's give a SHOUT OUT to my family (cousin Brooke/brother Travis) in Nahunta that came out to SUPPORT where a huge part of our time in the fall is spent!

AND my bff Mandy who is FAMILY too came!!!

Serious talks

Shawnda warming up!

Shawnda's dad praying before her race!

Brother moments!

family portrait!

Lil Frank placed 3rd in the state!

Shawnda also placed 3rd in the state!

And I had to get a picture of these crazies!  3 of these guys were on the 2010 State Championship XC team!

And that's the end of the 2013 XC season!!!

We love the journey of walking with these runners through life and spiritually encouraging them along the way.  This season was even more special as a group of the XC runners started going through the book of Ephesians on Sunday mornings with Rance and that study is currently still meeting!

Until next season folks...

It's beginning to feel like FALL...

NOT!  I started this blog post over a month ago and as I look outside watching the leaves hit the ground I am reminded that fall is about to be over in the mountains and the last month has flown by!  I am saying goodbye to the beautiful mountains splashed with a variety of oranges, reds, and yellows, and getting geared up for winter because it is a comin'!

Let's catch up on the last month shall we?!

October began with a visit from my family.  L.O.V.E.D. this time.  My Aunt Wendy (crazy cool aunt), Uncle Greg (dad's brother), cousin Autumn, her boyfriend Kristian, and my mom ventured to see us for the weekend.  This was our first time getting a visit from them (except for mom of course) and we did not skip a beat covering some territory in one weekend.

Friday evening we feasted on a BIG dinner and just caught up on life.  We began Saturday morning waking early to go see the sunrise at Stecoah Gap!  The fog was insane so the sunrise wasn't as fascinating as normal.

HELLO MORNING!

Autumn and Kristian had never been white water rafting so that was a MUST on the to-do list for Saturday!  We headed to the Nantahala River around 9:30am and got ready for a morning on the river.  What was even more fun was our guide - yep, none other than my husband himself!  You can only imagine the craziness of this trip down the river and him leading us through some crazy rapids and videoing all throughout the trip (even lost his phone in the end).  We laughed until we hurt and we only lost one passenger during the trip - AUNT WENDY :)

After we conquered the river that morning!

little fall scene :)

We were STARVING so we ate at the River's End restaurant on the river and devoured some food!  Afterwards, we headed to the house to change and then back out the door to head to the SKYWAY.  This is one of the most beautiful drives that people come from all over to ride to (especially on motorcycles).  The Skyway has beautiful views and little fun places to stop along the way.  Since it was the BEGINNING of fall at that time - the leaves were changing the higher up in elevation we went.

LOVED this store on the side of the road with TONS of handcrafted items.  My mom surprised us and bought us this sign for our house.  It is VERY fitting for us!

He makes everything fun!

These two are a blast!

These bears carved out amaze me and if they
weren't so expensive I'd have one at
our front door :)

Mama Gale & Aunt Wendy!

Rance yelling and listening to his echo!

And of course we took a little hike too!

By the time we got to the top of the Skyway, it was beautiful and right before dark!  The sun was setting and man, WHAT A VIEW my DADDY gave us!

We never get weary Praising the Lord...

GORGEOUS!

As we arrived home, we immediately headed out for a fire outside with some good food and marshmellows!  We were EXHAUSTED!

Sunday (October 6th) was my mom's birthday so it was a LOVELY ending to a wonderful weekend!

More to come in October...

The BIG 30!

Last Monday, I officially entered into the next decade of my life and I am REJOICING!  It's so interesting because I have heard for as long as I can remember how hard it is to turn 30 or 40 or 50 and how people just dread those 'big' birthdays.  I must say, that was NOT the case with me.  I'm not sure if it is because I just view age as a number or if 30 just doesn't define me or if I just accept the fact that I am getting older.  I have no idea really!  What I do know is - it is all a matter of perspective and I am grateful to be 30.  I also like to think I am getting wiser with age :) hehe!

Rance and I spent part of my birthday at the hospital seeing a specialist over his leg injury.  This injury has been some longsuffering people but we are thankful for it.  I was super pumped that I got to spend my birthday with my boo whether it was in the hospital or wherever!

LOVE a glass bottled Mt Dew!

We made a pit stop by Dunkin Donuts after the doctor's appointment.  They had iced lattes for $1!  Yes, I do believe I was on a SUGAR high on my birthday.

Then we headed to XC practice.  Rance had missed several days of practice so he was eager to see all his runners and 'sit' and coach!

That evening we headed over to Jess & Ben's where the Thacker's & the Carmichael's showered me with lots of love and CAKE!

So delicious!

Make a wish!

Thank you Jesus for another year of the abundant life! :)

We LOVE company!

One of the MANY things I am super grateful for is that Rance and I both view our home as a Kingdom asset and LOVE opening our home to anyone and everyone that need a get-a-way, spiritual encouragement, or just loved on!  It seems like so often people do NOT take us seriously when we say that we WELCOME you anytime whether we are here or not!

Over the summer while we were living in Indiana - we thoroughly enjoyed bonding with the Carmichael's (David, Carrie & Chloe).  Carrie and I had met last year at our women's retreat in Robbinsville so it is neat that at that time I had NO idea I would be MOVING to Indiana and spending a summer in Indiana with her.  We were SO excited that they decided to stay with us last Saturday through Thursday in Robbinsville so they could visit with Jess & Ben and meet Baby Wyatt!  Jess and Carrie were best friends and teammates in Indiana!

It was super fun having them here and we hope they will come back to see us!

Wyatt hanging out with us on Saturday night!

Boo Bear icing that leg and Ben rubbing his feet
