Honestly, everyday Rance and I say 'omg he is a little guy now'! He acts like one of us just hanging out, babbling (yes, we babble), and eating like a boss!
Everyday is an adventure! Parenting is quite the humbling job because I am reminded every single day that I cannot do it on my own and I need some MAJOR wisdom dumped in bucket loads from my Heavenly Daddy.
For some reason it really hits home that 9 months is only 3 months shy of ONE YEAR OLD. STOP IT. I won't go there...
So where are we at 9 months old?!?! Let's recap this last month:
- It's official - we cannot take our eyes off him. At 8 months, 11 days old - Jayden went to crawling and has never looked back. He knows he can get around now and get to whatever it is that looks like fun. No more sitting him in one spot and cleaning away and folding clothes and doing all that. I spend my time chasing him around and keeping him from putting EVERYTHING he can get his hands on in his mouth. What accountability for needing a CLEAN FLOOR at all times. Whether it is a bug, piece of lent, or dirt from our shoes - he is going to grab it and head straight to the mouth with it.
- He loves standing all the time and can stand by himself for several seconds. He can pull himself up too!
- He continues to eat like a boss (baby foods, puffs, milk)!
- He still loves a fire!!!
- He continues to love kitchen utensils & chapstick too!
- He is napping twice a day - typically an hour to an hour and a half in the mornings and a couple of hours in the afternoon (between 12 and 2).
- His sleep has been WAY OFF this month! I can't seem to figure it out - is it totally a growth spurt, is it teething, is he starving, is he just wanting me to soothe him, the list goes on. This month has been the challenge on all these questions but I am so thankful for the wisdom the Lord provides in the moment when you HAVE NO CLUE as a parent what to do. I've read about the 8-9-10 month sleep regression that happens once the baby starts developing the new skills of crawling, etc. If that is the case, he is definitely on a sleep regression. Now that he can easily go from laying to sitting up - he will sit himself up in the middle of the night and cry out and it's almost like he can't think to lay himself back down. It's hilarious but not hilarious all at the same time. We also began laying him down wide awake each night so that we are not 'helping' him fall asleep in any way but allowing him to learn to self soothe. This actually hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. Yes, he has cried out but typically I know he's exhausted and tummy is full and he's just fighting it. It's those middle of the nights when he wakes up that I battle letting him crying it out or feeding him or whatever. I mean, I still wake up in the middle of the night as an adult and have to go eat something - so what if he is just hungry?!?! :) Oh Lord help me! (Since I wrote these, sleeping has improved so I think it was the 9 month growth spurt for the most part).
- He is still wearing 12 month clothing mostly.
- Oh man, he has some thick ole thighs and he laughs his head off when I tickle them or smooch em!
- He responds to his name so well. The minute I say "Jayden" - that head whips around!
- He is so alert to any noise, sound or whatever is going on around him.
- He loves to DROP everything on the floor while sitting in his high chair. He knows exactly where it went to so no more trying to 'hide things' or pretend like they 'went away'. I KNOWS they are there.
- He continues to love bath time, especially sticking his hand under the running water. He's fascinated.
- We have began discipline and he is already beginning to understand "No, No" and the lovely thump on his hand!
- He has had lots of extra time with Rance this month with all the snow days so there were times he actually wanted his da da over ma ma! I was totally okay with that :)
- He is SO fun to take out to eat. I know this generally goes in spurts - like when he was a baby we didn't go anywhere but now he loves people and looking around. He pretty much is a blast in public at this point. I know this can change he he :)
Rance has this thing with ears and poking them out so yes, that was done on purpose!
- He can give the most serious expressions and NOT crack a smile when he is 'checking things out' or being 'Curious George'! When we ran into Curious George in Boone, NC - we had to take a picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- For a long while now, everytime I pick him up I'll say "come to ma ma" and now when he's across the room from me and I say "Jayden, come to ma ma" - he will smile so big and crawl just as hard as he can to me. OH MY WORD, I melt. I pick him up and give him lots of sugars which he so gladly returns by wetting my whole face.
- He absolutely LOVES kids. He has a blast at daycare the time that he is there and boy those kids are so sweet to each other.
- HE LOVES TO BE OUTSIDE, ride his wagon, dig his fingers in the dirt, crumble leaves in his hands, attempt to eat sticks, and stroll around in his stroller.
And here is an attempt at the 9 month chair pictures (HA)....notice I said ATTEMPT! The minute you sit him in this chair - he turns sideways or does a 180. Basically he does everything but face forward! His new thing is standing in front of it ROCKING IT.
These next few photos were taken the NEXT day after church - 9 month, 1 day
Happy 9 months little man!!!!!!!
